Police responded with teargas and bullets. The clashes erupted as soon as provisional results released by the electoral commission showed president Alpha Conde winning with a big margin.  \n\nConde, 82, won twice as many votes as his nearest rival, opposition candidate Cellou Dalein Diallo, with 37 of 38 districts counted, according to preliminary results from the commission. \n\n\nOpposition supporters accuse the electoral authorities of rigging the vote for incumbent president Alpha Conde. \n\nSekou Koundouno, head of mobilisation for the opposition coalition FNDC said Conde had committed 'high treason'.  \n\n\"He is an illegal and illegitimate candidate who is stubbornly pursuing his obsession to turn Guin ea into a monarchy in which, by the way, he will dictate orders to his subjects,\" said Kounduno.  \n\nDiallo maintains that he won with a landslide despite irregularities, according to his own tally. He remains barricaded in his home which security forces have besieged since Monday. \n\nICC warning  \n\nThe International Criminal Court’s chief prosecutor warned on Friday that warring factions in Guinea could be prosecuted after fighting erupted. \n\n\n“I wish to repeat this important reminder: anyone who commits, orders, incites, encourages and contributes in any other way to crimes … is liable to prosecution either by the Guinean courts or the ICC,” she said. \n\n\n#ICC Prosecutor #FatouBensouda: "I wish to repeat this important reminder: anyone who commits, orders, incites, encourages or contributes, in any other way, to the commission of #RomeStatute crimes, is liable to prosecution either by #Guinean courts or by the #ICC."\r\n— Int'l Criminal Court (@IntlCrimCourt) October 23, 2020 \n\n\nMany people have been killed since clashes began on Monday. Following pressure from civil rights activists, public servants, private citizens and a number of celebrities at least one of three police officers involved in “no-knock” warrant lead to the fatal shooting of a Breonna Taylor in Louisville has been fired, the Louisville’s mayor Greg Fischer said.

Fired officer Brett Hankison is accused by the department’s interim chief, Robert Schroeder, of “blindly” firing 10 rounds into Taylor’s apartment, creating a substantial danger of death and serious injury.

Two other officers, Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly and Officer Myles Cosgrove have been placed on administrative reassignment while the shooting is investigated.

Breonna Taylor was shot eight times by officers who burst into her Louisville home using a no-knock warrant during a March 13 narcotics investigation.

I cannot tolerate this type of conduct by any member of the Louisville Metro Police Department,” he added.

Remembering the Sacrifices

Thousands of Nigerians gathered on Sunday for a vigil to remember those who lost their lives at the hands of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) — a police unit accused of brutality and human rights crimes.

Created in 1984 to combat growing robberies in Nigeria, the unit is now disbanded following one of the largest youth-led protests the country has seen in a decade launched earlier in October by way of the social media movement #EndSARSNow.

Around 100 people have been injured and at least ten have died in the demonstrations due to what Amnesty International believes was the use of excessive force by the police. Nigerian youth are now calling for national police reform.

Last Monday, on Memorial Day, at 38th and Chicago in Minneapolis, four White police officers murdered George Floyd, a Black man.

Years ago I was told that in Duluth, Minnesota there is statue downtown of three Black men being hung to death by an angry mob of White people.

It was in protest to the many police shootings nationally of Black men.

We all know that had Floyd been White and the police Black they would all be in jail now facing first-degree murder charges, no questions asked.

Minneapolis police have gained a reputation for shooting and killing Black men and getting away with it, sometimes yes, on video.
