met with Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) and paid a visit to the site where the mayor had “Black Lives Matter” painted on a road that leads to the White House.
“It was very moving to see hundreds of thousands of people from all over America and around the world take to the streets to speak up, to speak out, to get into what I call ‘good trouble,’ or to get in the way,” Lewis said of the recent protests this week.
Earlier this weekend, the words “Black Lives Matter” were painted in yellow on 16th Street NW on Friday.
The same day, Bowser also announced on Twitter that a section of the street, which she added was “in front of the White House,” had also been officially named “Black Lives Matter Plaza.”
Since its unveiling Friday, the two-block span has been the site of several demonstrations over the weekend as protesters continue to take to the streets against police brutality in racism following the police killing of George Floyd.

Active Duty Troops On Standby Outside Washington, D.C., Being Sent Back To Home Bases
All of the approximately 1,600 active duty soldiers who were airlifted to military bases near Washington, D.C., earlier this week are being ordered back to their home postings, according the Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy.
The troops were mobilized to be deployed in the nation's capital if President Trump invoked the 1807 Insurrection Act, as he had threatened to do in a White House Rose Garden statement he made Monday evening.
On Friday, hundreds of former national security officials, diplomats and retired military flag officers signed a strongly worded statement denouncing Trump's calls for using of the military to squelch protests.
During an appearance Friday in the Rose Garden where Trump spoke for several minutes about the ongoing protests, he did not repeat his earlier threat to deploy active duty military forces to states.
In a letter sent to Trump Thursday evening, Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser objected to the ongoing deployment of more than 2,000 National Guard troops in the city.

In an address to the nation on Monday evening, President Museveni said that public transport will resume but with necessary health and safety measures in place.
\"For the next 21 days, no private or public transport is allowed in the border districts.
Meanwhile, Uganda on Tuesday recorded 32 new Covid-19 cases raising the national tally to 489.
\"Nineteen of the new confirmed cases are from 1,693 samples from points of entry while 13 are from 423 samples of contacts and alerts,\" the Health Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
Pierre Nkurunziza had only a few weeks to go as president of Burundi, before handing over power to his recently elected successor, Evariste Ndayishimiye.
Coming to power in 2005 after a bitter civil war that raged from 1993 in which it is estimated up to 300,000 people were killed, Nkurunziza had his work cut out for him.
But, as post-conflict Uganda and Rwanda show, there is also great opportunity in the rubble of war, because it provides imaginative leaders a lot of opportunity to build new things.
Nkurunziza did calm Burundi, treading the delicate balance between Hutu and Tutsi factions on which a peace settlement had been built, but he soon slipped, with Burundi becoming the most corrupt country in East Africa.
Yet, in the end, Nkurunziza became the first guerrilla leader president, who threw in the towel after 15 years, and didn't fight to serve out a presidency for life.

While President David Granger has endorsed the controversial move by Chief Election Officer (CEO) Keith Lowenfield to discard 25% of the votes cast at the March 2 polls, Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo yesterday said that the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) could still rectify the situation.
This has been done and has been a feature of the report the CEO presented to the Commission,” he maintained, before adding that “It is quite in order for the Chief Election Officer to rule that invalid votes cannot be counted as valid.”
Granger, who has repeatedly stated that he will accept the results declared by the Chair of GECOM Claudette Singh, attempted to argue that the Commission was bound to make a declaration based on Lowenfield’s report rather than the certified results of the recount.
Lowenfield defied her and eventually presented his own version which triggered consternation from CARICOM Chair Mia Mottley, who with other CARICOM leaders had brokered an accord between Granger and Jagdeo for the recount.
Jagdeo noted that while the president endorsed Lowenfield’s actions, he did not once discuss that the actions were being done fraudulently to declare the APNU+AFC as winning the 2020 polls, invalidating some 115,000 votes or quarter of the 2020 electorate.

Following a united MDC-T split 2018, then party co-vice president Thokozani Khupe formed her party and kept the name MDC-T while MDC Alliance rival Nelson Chamisa incorporated erstwhile allies in MDC splinter groups led by former secretary generals Welshman Ncube and Tendai Biti to form MDC Alliance.
A court ruling has restored the original MDC-T into the hands of Khupe and further ordered an extra-ordinary elective party congress within two months of the ruling.
\"Losing an illegally acquired position could not be easy for anyone, therefore the 'fixation' is understood,\" said Phungeni in reference to the Supreme Court ruling which stripped Mudzuri the party's vice presidency.
Mudzuri was in 2016 appointed co-vice president of the then Morgan Tsvangirai led MDC-T, a position that was reversed in retrospect by the Supreme Court 2019.
Khupe's spokesperson said everyone in the party except the former Harare Mayor has accepted the Supreme Court's ruling.
Financial experts have warned those pushing for a 20 per cent pay to the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) members to cushion them against the Covid-19 pandemic economic shocks, risk setting a bad precedent.
Mr Martin Nsubuga, the CEO of Uganda Retirements Benefits Regulatory Authority (URBRA), said it is only Austria that has temporarily lent out its social security savings to its members during the Covid-19 lockdown, but the members will be required to pay back.
The warning by Mr Nsubuga, was supported by Mr Richard Byarugaba, the managing director of the NSSF, who has since said they will need between 2.6 trillion to 3 trillion if they are to pay out the 20 per cent to its members.
Other panelists argued that NSSF members should not be looking at the 20 per cent of their savings to rescue them during the Covid-19 lockdown but have the NSSF Act amended to include a wider scope for members to access savings mid-term such as during unemployment and maternity.
The discussion came hours after a concerned citizen, Mr Morrison Rwakakamba, dragged the NSSF and the Attorney General to the Constitutional Court, seeking court to compel the Fund to pay members 20 per cent of their savings during the lockdown.

The four cops involved with Floyd’s death were fired on Tuesday, according to the police department, and now the case is being investigated by state and federal authorities including the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The officers confronted Floyd, who was inside the vehicle at that point, and the cops said he “physically resisted” after he got out the car.
However, video of the moment Floyd was taken out of his car by the police shows that he didn’t seem to initially resist as reported.
