\"Everybody on social media does just take everything for a joke.\" She said she did not get any useful information about her missing pet and is constantly at edge wondering if Peep is in pain or worse, dead.
\"Some people love materialistic things and they don't how to value life. I'm not looking for attention or fame, I just want my chicken back.\"
Khan said her mother has been a rock of support and even though she was at first sceptical about posting the missing poster on Facebook, she relented so that \"the person who took Peep will realise just how much that chicken is of value to me.\"
This newspaper decided to not use Khan's image to protect her from further trauma.
The soft-spoken woman was emotional and on the verge of tears as she recalled her time with Peep. She said her pet lived indoors, watched television, and was at her side for most of the day whenever she is at home.

On April 24, she let Peep outside to mingle with her companions, Springs and Browns, two other layers she bought to keep her beloved chicken company. Sometime between noon and 3 pm, Peep went missing and led to a frantic search in the rural community where hunting is a vocation. She could not find any feathers or even a trail of blood in the days that followed but still clings on to hope that someone stole her chicken and may have her pet alive in captivity.
\"Even if she is not alive, I still want her,\" Khan said. She said the first day without Peep was the hardest as she could not eat or sleep.
Every time Khan goes home she is reminded of the emptiness and silence without the happy chirping of her pet.
Last April, Khan was diagnosed with covid19 which knocked her off her feet.

Acting Commissioner of Police McDonald Jacob has vowed the police will win the war against the “evil” plaguing the country as there were four murders on Saturday including a brazen drive-by killing of a man near the Breakfast Shed in Port of Spain.
Jacob was speaking to the media after the military-style funeral service of PC Clarence Gilkes at the D’Abadie Pentecostal Church on Ragoo Road on Saturday.
“Coming out of this funeral this afternoon and hearing about two additional murders within the land of TT, we want to give the population the assurance that the TT police service, we have the resolve, we have the resilience to protect this nation. In spite of what we (are) seeing happening, we will overcome.\"

I know that we will overcome. This is a time for TT, when we all need to come together – all the good-thinking persons who want well for TT – to bind with the TT police service. We will work together and we will move out the evil from our land. This is the right time. We are the law enforcement agency and we intend to enforce the law.\"
Jacob said in the coming weeks and months different non-government organisations, government departments and others will be joining the police \"to fight this scourge that is existing in our land. As I said, we will be victorious.”
He added that the investigation into the death of Gilkes was going well and he should be able to say more next week. Gilkes was shot in the back of the neck during a police exercise in Rich Plain Road, Diego Martin on April 22.
On Saturday, around 4 am man was shot and killed as he was stealing copper cables in Carapichaima. Then, around 3.25 am, Jillian Lewis, 45, was shot and killed at her home in Petit Bourg, and around 10 am on Saturday, Ian \"Thin Man\" Stanley of Rich Plain Road, Diego Martin was riddled with bullets in a drive-by shooting on Wrightson Road. Gunmen shot a driver along Picton Street, Woodbrook hours later killing the man instantly. Police did not immediately identify the victim.
During the sermon at Gilkes' funeral, pastor Ricky Mc Clatchie said these were perilous times when crimes and criminals have upgraded and so TT is now facing evil. He encouraged members of the protective services not to drop their hands in despair but to remember that with God anything is possible.
He said over the past two years of the pandemic, grief, pain and sorrow had become commonplace. He said no one plans for death to happen and encouraged Gilkes’ family to use their time of bereavement for self-reflection.

A new array of surgery services will soon be available to physically challenged children. The Princess Elizabeth Home on Ariapita Avenue launched its new orthopaedic theatre and surgical ward on April 27.
At the opening ceremony at the home, its president Clement Imbert said, 'The home started with a gift from Queen Elizabeth, who was a princess at the time of her engagement to Prince Philip.
\"At the time many children were affected by poliomyelitis. and she said the best gift we could give to her was to establish a home in TT to rehabilitate the afflicted children. Hence the name of the institution.'
Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a disabling and life-threatening disease caused by the polio virus. The virus spreads from person to person and can infect the spinal cord, causing paralysis.
On the progress of the home. Imbert said, 'We have had many additions and improvements over the years, offering new services such as orthopaedic hand surgeries and dental services. Both of these need to recommence and expand to serve other children's homes.'
Imbert gave credit to the Rotary Club of Port of Spain for establishing the dental facility in 2012.
'In 1953 this institution was managed by a position called 'superintendent,' which speaks to the colonial days. However, the menu of services grew from a rehabilitative home to include a nursery and primary school and various medical services.'
Chair of the Scotiabank TT Foundation Roxanne De Freitas said, 'As a member of the Scotiabank family, I feel such an overwhelming sense of pride to know that we have been able to play a part in seeing this new ward and operating theatre come to fruition.
'The new ward will increase the capacity and efficiency of orthopaedic and rehabilitation services for an estimated 1,200 physically challenged children annually. It will also house the surgical wards, operating theatre and the clinic under one roof, helping improve efficiency and patient quality care.'
On disabilities she said, 'Persons with handicaps and disabilities are one of the most excluded and marginalised groups and often face multiple challenges in realising their full potential. Every year, through surgery and rehabilitation the Princess Elizabeth Home helps remove barriers for young people so they can flourish and participate in society. Scotiabank shares this commitment to helping promote opportunity, participation and inclusion.'
Giving a breakdown of cost, president of the Children's Ark Simone de la Bastide said the organisation did not expect to complete the project within a year as it required over $1 million.
She said sponsors included, as well as the Scotiabank TT Foundation, RBCTT, the Digicel Foundation, Uhrenholt, Medcorp, Nutrien, Brian MacFarlane, the House of Jaipur, the Royal College of Nairobi alumni and others.
The internal structure, including staircases, was demolished before plans were changed and the new extension of 12,000 square feet was added to house the operating theatre and adjacent rooms.
