The cause of death of the baby born prematurely, and said to have died of Covid-19 after a two-day struggle for survival, will be investigated, the Western Cape government said on Thursday.
\"We are saddened by this tragic loss of such a young life and send our deepest sympathies to the family at this time,\" said Western Cape Premier Alan Winde.
The statement said that 235 people had died of Covid-19 in the Western Cape by 13:00 on Thursday.
The cross-border transporting of bodies formed part of discussions at a high-level meeting between the Western and Eastern Cape governments, as well as national government ministers.
The virtual meeting on Thursday included Premier Oscar Mabuyane and Winde, Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize, Police Minister Bheki Cele, Health MECs Sindiswa Gomba of the Eastern Cape and Nomafrench Mbombo of the Western Cape, and the Safety and Liaison MECs Weziwe Tikana-Gxothiwe of the Eastern Cape and Albert Fritz of the Western Cape.
The governor of the Mudug region of Puntland Ahmed Muse Nur was killed along with his three guards by a suicide car bombing blast which occurred on Sunday in the city of Galkayo.

Accusations of racism and police brutality at a Central Florida block party attended by 3,000 people has led a police department to deny that several arrests made were due to the race of the partygoers, according to CNN.
Although the party was promoted on social media, neither the city of DeLand nor the county of Volusia issued a permit for the block party as it started on private property, DeLand Police Chief Jason Umberger said in a news conference Monday.
In a written statement posted on the Volusia County Sheriff website, it states:
“Starting Saturday afternoon and into early Sunday, an estimated 3,000 people gathered across DeLand for a party or parties that spanned several locations.
Volusia Sheriff’s Office deputies working alongside DeLand PD encountered several issues: A long gun pointed out of the passenger window of a passing vehicle, a loaded gun handed off from one convicted felon to another, agitated crowds of bystanders and bottles, jars, and bar stools used against law enforcement as weapons or projectiles.”

Kinana added that, through further investigation, police discovered the suspect had several Facebook accounts and was a regular traveller to many destinations all over South Africa.

Kinana added: \"In all these different towns, the suspect was advertising to attract young girls to pitch up for the photo sessions.

Nigeria’s largest medical union asked striking members in the commercial capital Lagos to go back to work on Thursday.
This ends a strike over alleged police harassment of doctors as they travelled to and from work during a night curfew.
The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) doctors union, which ordered Lagos members to cease work the day before, said the issue had been remedied.

Wednesday (May.20), The Olympian reported that Kaplan, Louisiana police officer, Steven Aucoin’s was given the boot after he had the gall to drop a racist comment during Gov. John Bel Edwards live stream of a COVID-19 press conference.
Per The Olympian:
“The Kaplan Police Department confirmed officer Steven Aucoin’s firing in a Facebook post on May 15, saying it was ‘aware of the situation’ and dismissed Aucoin after an investigation into comments the officer made online just hours earlier,” reported Tanasia Kenney.
The department issued a statement saying, “Chief [Joshua] Hardy and the Kaplan Police Department would like to apologize for this matter.”

Guatemala blasted US President Donald Trump on Thursday over US deportations of migrants infected with coronavirus.
President Alejandro Giammattei said the deportations had saturated quarantine centers in Guatemala and heaped pressure on the Central American country's weak health system.
Among Guatemala's 2,000 coronavirus cases, authorities say 100 were migrants deported from the US.
He also hit out at the US failure to send Guatemala medical supplies.
In a statement following Giammattei's comments, the US embassy in Guatemala listed the ways it said the United States is helping Guatemala.
South Sudan’s First Vice-President Riek Machar and his wife Angelina Teny have tested positive for Covid-19.
Dr Machar revealed on Monday that he and his wife, who is also Defence Minister, had contracted the virus, reportedly after interacting with infected members of the High-Level Taskforce on Covid-19, a team drafted to help fight the pandemic.
“We are still awaiting other tests and hopefully tomorrow, we will have the full list (of positive cases among the Taskforce),” Machar told a televised news conference on Monday in Juba.
His Spokesperson James Gatdet Dak said Machar and his wife would be self-isolating at their home in Juba for the next two weeks as they manage the infection.

[Monitor] The Ministry of health has confirmed 701 new cases of Covid-19, the highest the country has ever registered since the pandemic outbreak in March this year.
A 78-year-old retired police captain was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Sterkspruit Regional Court on Wednesday for raping his then-10-year-old granddaughter more than 18 years ago.
According to a statement by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, was a 60-year-old police officer stationed in the Free State at the time of the incident.
The case went unreported for 14 years, until 2016, when the victim decided to report it to the police.
\"Advocate Loyiso Methuso, for the State, led the evidence for the victim, now 28 years old, who gave a clear and satisfactory account of the incident, despite the 18-year lapse,\" Tyali said.
\"The court held that the man broke the relationship of trust and failed in his duty to protect the child, as both her grandfather and a police officer.
