Franco-Malian Music Sensation Aya Nakamura Releases Her Third Album | Africanews

More Music and More Substance

She is the most listened to French-speaking recording artist in the entire world, Aya Danioko better known as Aya Nakamura, the singer of Malian descent has just released her third album self titled Aya. A Multicultural Fusion that Has Influenced the World

The singing sensation gives an inside look into her latest project, “I think it's a bit more realistic, there are fewer punchlines, it's more melodic. I think it's a bit more realistic in every sense and it talks a lot about love in a positive way. I could have done a bling bling thing with rhinestones and sequins as they say, but I didn't want to do that, and I'm not like that, deep down. I may be the most listened to French female artist in the world, but I am still someone's mother, someone's sister, and I have a family. I thought it important to show all that because I share my life with them." Born Aya Danioko in Bamako twenty-five years ago, the internationally celebrated songbird makes colourful music enriched with subcultural slang and her own unique expressions such as her global hit song "djadja" that literally translates to "man" which her millions of fans can be heard singing all over the world.

Aya shares her feelings on her music-making process and the public backlash her style can sometimes receive from a minority of naysayers.

"The way I see it, when you have no mental limitations, why would you limit yourself by saying, ‘okay, I'm going to be known only in France.’ When people ask me, ‘how does it feel to be known internationally?’ I don’t let it get to my head, because I just tell myself that I didn't hold back when making my music, I didn't say to myself, ‘If I sing that, will it be frowned upon? Will it be well-received?’ I just did what I liked. Some people may say to themselves, ‘Who does she think she is? She's mocking our French language’ all like ‘’I don't care, I'm going to invent new words,’’ what's her deal?’ When it’s not like that at all. I think it's important to accept other people’s cultures - especially when you are multicultural, that's how it is, you have to accept it."

Continued Success for the International Starlet

Her third studio album, Aya, has been available since November 13.

BY TATIRA ZWINOIRA FINANCIAL services giant, CBZ Holdings (CBZH) on Tuesday said inflation-adjusted post-tax profits slipped to $2,44 billion during the third quarter ended September 30, 2020 after the economy suffered from the effects of COVID-19-induced lockdowns. Zimbabwe’s biggest banking group posted $4,32 billion in post-tax profits during the comparable period in 2019. “The COVID-19 was declared a world pandemic by the World Health Organisation on March 11, 2020 as most countries reported surging numbers of cases. In response, the government adopted restrictive measures to contain the spread of the virus. While necessary, the restrictive measures also led to a disruption of economic activities creating both threats and opportunities to the group’s business model,” CBZH said in a commentary accompanying the period’s financial statements. Revenues declined to $10,4 billion from $11,5 billion previously in response to the total closure of economic activities as government tried to curb the spread of the pandemic. However, the group reported gains in total assets, which nearly doubled to $90,39 billion from $47,23 billion. In line with inflationary increases, lending increased by 262,17% to $22,74 billion compared to $6,27 billion previously. Total deposits more than doubled during the period under review to $64,38 billion from $27,83 billion in 2019. The group said COVID-19 might turn into an endemic disease in the coming year, which might dictate the pace and growth of the economy. “Going into the last quarter of the year, and into 2021, a number of scenarios are shaping up for the global and domestic economies,” the group said. “On the global level, COVID-19 is likely to gradually gravitate towards endemic status, with localised restrictions. Policymakers are expected to maintain expansionary monetary policies in order to continue supporting their economies. In Zimbabwe, the direction of most economic fundamentals largely depends on the government’s pace and approach towards reopening of the economy, in particular how the authorities will seek to boost economic activity in the key growth sectors such as the agriculture, mining, manufacturing and public sector,” CBZH noted. The banking group said policy conduct remained generally difficult and constrained as the continued lack of balance of payments and budgetary support confined authorities to limited domestic resources.

Millions of children, especially in Nigeria, the most populous nation in Africa, are at risk of not being vaccinated against polio and measles because of the coronavirus, UNICEF and the World Health Organization have alerted.

\"It is essential to address the global Covid-19 pandemic. However, other deadly diseases, such as polio and measles, also threaten the lives of millions of children in some of the poorest parts of the world,\" UNICEF and the WHO said in a joint statement issued Wednesday in Abuja.

According to the two organizations, there has been \"a global resurgence of measles with epidemics under way in all regions of the world in recent years.

Gaps in immunization coverage have been further exacerbated in 2020 by Covid-19, they added and called for \"urgent action\" by global donors and policymakers.

The situation in Nigeria, and its nearly 200 million people, is worrying. Although the country was declared free of wild polio in August 2020, it \"remains at risk of outbreaks of polio and measles due to a small improvement in immunization coverage,\" according to the statement.

Only 54 percent of children in Nigeria, for example, have received the first dose of measles vaccine, according to 2018 data.

On Monday, Nigerian authorities announced a sudden spike in cases and deaths from yellow fever, a deadly but vaccinated disease, in two southern regions.

In the neighboring Benue region, at least 17 people have died in recent days from an unknown disease, local media reported Wednesday.

The country has so far been relatively spared by the coronavirus pandemic, which has officially killed 1,154 people out of more than 64,000 registered cases. But the number of tests is largely insufficient.
