\t While no one claimed responsibility for the attack, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif pointed the finger at Israel, calling the killing an act of ``\"state terror.''

\t ``Terrorists murdered an eminent Iranian scientist today. This cowardice _ with serious indications of Israeli role _ shows desperate warmongering of perpetrators,'' Zarif wrote on Twitter.

French police officers involved in the b rutal beating of a black man over the weekend have been suspended.

Footage of the incident, showing officers repeatedly punching the music producer was posted to a news website Thursday, igniting widespread condemnation.

According to French police reports , the man identified by his first name Michel, drew the attention of the police because he was not wearing a mask in the 17th district of the French capital on Saturday.

\"Without this video, I wouldn't be here before you today and maybe, without this video, you might be putting out the same story with the headline 'A young man assaulted,' well I'm no longer so young, I'm complimenting myself, but a young man assaulted police officers, tried to take their weapons, hit them, everything I've heard\", Michel said.

French Interior Gérald Darmanin said he asked for the suspension of the officers concerned as a precautionary measure. The four police officers are now being heard in custody by the IGPN , the body investigating police officer's behaviour.

The incidents comes as President Emmanuel Macron pushes a new bill to criminalize filming police officers in a way that would put them in danger.

WARRIORS stars Tinotenda Kadewere and Marshall Munetsi, the only Zimbabweans playing in the French Ligue 1, meet for the first time on Sunday when their two sides clash in a league match. BY FORTUNE MBELE Kadewere only joined Olympique Lyonnais from second-tier side Le Havre in January and has since established himself, while Munetsi joined Stade de Reims last year and in May, extended his stay by four years. The Warriors gunslinger is Lyon’s man of the moment, whose exploits have taken the club to position three on the league table, while Munetsi’s Stade de Reims are struggling, sitting on position 17 ahead of the Sunday clash at the Park Olympique Lyonnais. Odds favour Lyon, who have gone eight games without tasting a defeat, picking four wins and four draws in which Kadewere has scored his four goals. He was single-handedly in charge of Lyon’s last two wins, netting a brace in the 2-1 win over St Ettiene and the solitary goal against Angers SCO. Kadewere has received rave reviews from ligue1.com ahead of the Sunday tie against Reims as he closes in on Lyon’s leading scorer Memphis Depay, who is on five goals. “Memphis Depay has Tino Kadewere hot on his heels in the goalscoring stakes as Olympique Lyonnais get set to welcome Stade de Reims. It was Kadewere who proved the difference between Lyon and Angers SCO on Sunday, through the Zimbabwean’s second-half strike, his fourth goal in five games, leaving him just one behind the Dutchman, and his side just two points away from Lille and four from Paris Saint Germain (PSG),” ligue1.com said. According to ligue1.com, Depay and Moussa Dembélé have been linked with a move to Spanish giants Barcelona and Lyon’s attack is poised to revolve around Kadewere in the future. Munetsi, a defensive midfielder, who last November managed to contain Brazilian star Neymar Jnr when his side beat PSG 1-0, has the task of making sure his menacing compatriot Kadewere and Depay are kept at bay. Lyon will have to contend with Reims’ Senegalese forward Boulaye Dia, who has banged in eight goals this far, one short of the league’s leading scorer, PSG and France’s star Kylian Mbappé. Munetsi, a regular at Reims, missed the 2-0 defeat to PSG in September after he received his marching orders in the previous 2-1 loss to Metz. He has played all the succeeding five matches, cautioned last week in the 1-0 defeat to Nîmes and in the 2-2 draw against Rennes, substituted in the big 4-0 demolition of Montpellier.

An immense portrait of a child in Yorkshire England aims to highlight the plight of children in war-torn Yemen.

The project is the work of a group of artists known as ‘’Sand In Your Eye’’ in the United Kingdom.

\"We watched the report and the report was telling us how children in the Yemen were really under pressure from climate change and war, but then COVID-19 and it was disrupting food supplies and medication as well. And so we looked into it a little bit further. And then UNICEF said that 6,000 children could pass away every single day because of this, these same reasons\", Jamie Wardley, sand artist and founder of Sand In Your Eye said.

The portrait is made up of 6,000 real-sized figures of playing children, symbolizing the 6,000 that UNICEF warned could die each day because of Yemen’s dire situation.

\"You know, you can't look at a child who is really, really poorly and not be affected by it, and then I think art also helps to visualize, make visual representations of things that are quite difficult to understand. And so behind me on my screen, I've got the images that we drew\", he added.

According to a recent report by UNICEF, millions of children could be pushed to the brink of starvation as the covid-19 pandemic sweeps across the country, amid a fall in global aid.

Yemen's poor healthcare infrastructure is unprepared to battle the pandemic after five years of war between a Saudi-led military coalition and Iran-backed Houthi rebels.

Matabeleland secessionist group Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) has petitioned Home Affairs minister Kazembe Kazembe and Police Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga over harassment of commuter omnibus operators and malicious damage of vehicles by the law enforcement agents in Bulawayo. BY SILAS NKALA MRP president Mqondisi Moyo handed the petition to Bulawayo Metropolitan Affairs minister Judith Ncube and Police Traffic Section at the Drill Hall in Bulawayo. The petition was directed to Kazembe, Matanga, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Transport minister Joel Biggy Matiza, officer-in-charge of Bulawayo province, Minister Ncube, the Joint Operations Command (JOC) and Bulawayo Transport Operators Associations. The secessionist party complained over acts of barbarisms and terrorism by police officers on private taxis and kombi operators. “This is my second letter to you Kazembe and Matanga. “On August 25, I wrote the first letter complaining about the conduct of your police officers at roadblocks,” the petition read. “I advised you to come down to Bulawayo and rein in on the police officers. I would applaud you for coming down on my insistence, to discuss the issues of concern so that you restore sanity on the roads by immediately stopping the harassment of citizens at road blocks.” Moyo said that he wrote this second petition because another wave of madness by irresponsible police officers has emerged. “On several occasions, I have witnessed your police officers smash windows of emergency taxis in the city and in other places in Bulawayo,” the petition read. “Public safety is now greatly compromised by the very conduct of security members. The attack on the kombis results in motorists disregarding road rules leading to pedestrians being run over as drivers try to save their vehicles from destruction by police officers,” Moyo wrote. “Just a week ago, an old lady was knocked down by a kombi as the driver was trying to escape the brutality of your officers. “We understand that their (police) authority is limited to arresting offending drivers, recording vehicle registration numbers, and even advising on the right conduct without necessarily causing all this damage.” Moyo said he wondered where the police were getting fuel to race after transport operators, when they are failing to respond to genuine reports of theft and murder reported to them by the public claiming they do not have resources. Moyo asked why the police and the Zanu PF government were blocking private transport operators from operating. “We strongly call upon your ministry to treat this as a matter of urgency, as we are slowly losing our patience and faith in your compromised police force,“ he wrote. “We are heading towards effecting citizens’ arrest against your dubious officers. “We are aware that in many instances they make life difficult for transport operators so that they make them to pay bribes. I put it to you that there is no law that was gazetted to stop the private kombis to get into town and that there is no proper gazetted law that prohibits the p

SO much was expected from Finance and Economic Development minister Mthuli Ncube’s 2021 national budget, which was presented yesterday. Yet he delivered very little. Zimbabwe has been badly battered by multiple hardships stemming out of sheer mismanagement, misgovernance and corruption. And when authorities pretend to be delivering policies that help people, but end up glossing over their incompetencies as happened yesterday, we wonder where our citizens will go to get their challenges addressed. Blueprints like the national budget are no laughing matter. They lay a foundation on which over 16 million Zimbabweans live and how future generations will also survive. The budget must not be turned into a machine that generates money for the elite, and takes everything from the poor. This is not how it should be. But it appears Mthuli has chosen to pursue this long chosen path, punishing the poor through policies that ignite price hikes, and taking everything that they have through hostile taxes and fees. In the end, it is the poor and defenceless majority people who suffer. That is why we were so disappointed by yesterday’s budget. Zimbabweans expected a well-considered hike in tax free threshold of up to $20 000, for instance, for people’s wages to make an impact during this festive season when so much is required in terms of preparations for Christmas and budgeting for expenses in January. Yet, Mthuli placed the figure at a paltry $10 000. It means the few who are still formally employed and earning less than $10 000 per month will always be broke before they earn their wages. This is a recipe for disaster in many ways. Poverty levels will remain steep, food insecurity rates will remain high, and millions of people will continue to struggle finding food because the workers who normally support them won’t afford. While inflation has been decelerating, it remains extremely high at 471%, which explains why prices remain high and spending power has been subdued. This in itself is another recipe for disaster. A nation that does not spend is as good as dead and so is its industry. It lacks the catalyst that is vital for stimulating demand to expand businesses, which employ people, encouraging more spending. Clearly, yesterday’s budget missed the point by ignoring this very important fact. By firing the blanks, Mthuli can be guaranteed that job actions that we have seen in 2020 will intensify next year as teachers, nurses and other civil servants feel the pinch of a never ending economic crisis. And even if government cracks down on them and force them to return to work, it will not work. They will simply not deliver. Our children will receive a poor education, with disastrous consequences on future generations. Already, people are dying needlessly in hospitals because morale is low among those still reporting to work, simple. And in a country with over 90% unemployment, very few can afford private health care, which is readily available in United States dollar fees. Government must be serious, the people are suffering. ZIMBABWE’s leader, Emmerson Mnangagwa was sworn in as President on November 24, 2017 to replace Robert Mugabe who was deposed through a military coup. November 24 marked exactly three years since the assumption of Mnangagwa as the President of Zimbabwe. The unfortunate events of November 2017 will forever be remembered as the time that Zimbabwe kissed “democracy” goodbye, with the military apparatchiks taking control in the running of the central government. While a majority of Zimbabweans wanted Mugabe to go, we became blind, and we wanted him to go by any means necessary, at the same time allowing the opportunistic Mnangagwa and his generals to hijack the people’s emotions and modelled the whole operation as a “peoples revolution”. To some, seeing the back of Mugabe signalled a “new dawn”, some called it “independence day”, while the architects of the coup coined it a “new dispensation,” a desperate tact to sanitise the unconstitutional removal of a sitting Head of State. A majority of coups in Africa have failed to produce democratic dispensations, ours was not an exception, examples being Equatorial Guinea, Uganda, Djibouti, the Republic of Congo, Mauritania, Sudan and Chad. It was clear from the onset that Operation Restore Legacy had nothing to do with the revival of the economy, ending corruption, political reforms to move Zimbabwe into a democratic order were the rule of law is respected with citizens enjoying civil liberties. In his article, Jonathan Moyo referred to seven key demands made by the military on November 16, 2017 to Mugabe through the then Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, General Constantino Chiwenga, to justify Operation Restore Legacy. Where we so naive not to read through Chiwenga's speech to understand that the military had stepped into the internal affairs of a political party? Instead, we jubilated and in our different corners showering praises to the military which was busy violating the Constitution of the land. That is the very day that our political consciousness vanished into thin air. We were too desperate, too excited, we suspended logic and indeed it was a celebration of half time oranges before the trophy. We are in a fix and have no one to blame except ourselves as Mnangagwa and his henchmen are now in firm control of the levers of power. From the day they got into power they have been using every instrument available to close the democratic space, arrests, abductions and disappearances are now the order of the day. The new dispensation appears to be on a warpath aimed at muzzling opposition. The Constitution has literally been suspended with statutory instruments being used to maintain Zanu PF hold on power. Parliament has since been made a joke, with recalls and swearing-in of losing candidates in the 2018 elections. What a shame! The proposed amendments to the Constitution are a calculated attempt to impose a one-party State system of governance in Zimbabwe and the citizens must be alert and defend the constitution.
