The Gavi Vaccine Alliance has said that an impressive 7 million girls in Nigeria were vaccinated against the human papillomavirus (HPV) in just two weeks under the second phase of the vaccination exercise which flagged off in May 2024. Responding to an inquiry by The Guardian, Gavi disclosed that the first phase of the campaign, launched in October 2023, saw 5.3 million girls in 15 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) vaccinated while the second phase has already seen 7 million girls in 21 states protected and counting.
