Around 92 per cent of these people have recovered. This is good news. The National Congress had not said anything about the Teich resignation, but the former minister of education during the Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva government and left-wing candidate for president of Brazil in 2018, Fernando Haddad, published a tweet saying: “Who will be the next Health Minister?

At least 812 health workers have, so far, tested positive for COVID-19 in Nigeria, the Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Chikwe Ihekweazu, has said.

Mr Ehanire explained that only health care workers with training in infectious diseases control are eligible to handle COVID-19 patients.

The federal government had earlier barred private hospitals from treating COVID-19 cases, saying many of the health workers there are not trained to handle such a disease.

\"A special COVID-19 hazard and inducement allowance of 50 per cent of Consolidated Basic Salary will also be paid to all health workers in Nigerian Teaching Hospitals, Federal Medical Centres (FMCs), and designated COVID-19 centres for the first three months in the first instance.

\"40 cent of the Consolidated Basic Salary would be paid as special COVlD-19 Hazard and Inducement Allowance to health workers at special Non-Public Hospitals and clinics in the Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) for same three months' period,\" the minister of state for health, Olurunnimbe Mamora, said

He also said 20 per cent of the Consolidated Basic Salary will be paid to all health workers directly managing COVlD-19 at the Infectious Diseases Hospitals (IDH) isolation and treatment centres.

Oliver Tambo , (born October 27, 1917, Bizana, Pondoland district, Transkei [now in Eastern Cape], South Africa—died April 24, 1993, Johannesburg), president of the South African black-nationalist African National Congress (ANC) between 1967 and 1991. He spent more than 30 years in exile (1960–90).

Tambo was born in a Transkei village of subsistence farmers. He attended Anglican and Methodist mission schools and the University of Fort Hare (B.S., 1941) and later studied law. In 1944 with Nelson Mandela and others, he cofounded the ANC Youth League, which revitalized the ANC after a moribund period. After briefly teaching mathematics and science in Johannesburg, Tambo began engaging wholly in nationalist politics and legal cases, rising concurrently in the ranks of the ANC. In 1952 he joined with Mandela to establish South Africa’s first black law practice. Tambo was arrested on treason charges in 1956 but was released the following year. In 1958 he became ANC deputy president.

After the Sharpeville massacre (March 21, 1960), the ANC was essentially outlawed when it was banned by the South African government. Tambo left South Africa to help set up the organization’s foreign headquarters, eventually settling in Lusaka, Zamb. In 1965 he established an ANC guerrilla training camp in Morogoro, Tanzania. After the death of ANC president Albert Luthuli in 1967, Tambo began serving as acting president; he was officially appointed to the post in 1969. Tambo’s decisive achievement was keeping the ANC together in exile. By skillful lobbying throughout the world and attracting the most talented South African exiles (such as Thabo Mbeki), he was able to build the organization into the legitimate voice of black South Africans. Though still in exile, Tambo’s ANC provided the focus for mass politics in South Africa in the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s. The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in South Africa has reached 20,125, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said on Friday.

The country recorded 988 cases over the past 24 hours, Mkhize said in his daily update.

Nationwide, a total of 543,032 tests have been conducted so far, with 17,599 done in the last 24 hours, said Mkhize.

South Africa is preparing to ease the lockdown from level four to level three of a five-level system by the end of May, which will allow more businesses to reopen and greater movement of people.

As South Africa is entering the winter season when flu is common, the fight against Covid-19 will become more complicated and difficult, Mkhize said, adding the country's capabilities to fight the virus will then be put to test.

Months after stepping down as head of the nation’s largest civil rights organization, former NAACP President Benjamin Jealous is transforming himself from an East Coast political activist to a West Coast venture capitalist.

The career switch is one that he hopes will help further his aspirations of acquiring more opportunities for blacks and Latinos in the thriving tech economy.

“My life’s mission has been leveling the playing field and closing gaps in opportunity and success,” Jealous, 41, told The Associated Press before Tuesday’s announcement. “I’m excited about trying a different approach.”

The Northern California native will be joining entrepreneurs Mitchell Kapor and Fread Kapor Klein at their venture capital investment firm.

The firm backs information technology startups dedicated to making a positive social impact.

Fred Turner, a culture and technology professor at Stanford University, said it’s “fascinating that a person of his caliber and experience would move into this space.”

Turner revealed there’s a deep questioning about how to accomplish positive social change in the U.S.

“In the Silicon Valley they approach it entrepreneurially, in Washington they approach it politically,” Turner said. “These are two very different modes.”

Jealous said he and his family don’t plan on relocating to the West Coast, but will remain in Silver Spring, Md.; however, he will commute once a month.

Jealous said he and his family will remain in Silver Spring, Md., but he’ll commute to the West Coast about once a month.

Jealous, accredited with improving NAACP’s finances, dnor base and outreach, disclosed he will never wash his hands completely of politics.

“It’s in my DNA,” he said.

His new position will require Jealous to receive a crash course in technology, investing and even software coding.

“I’m going to have a computer coding tutor for the first time since I was in fifth grade,” he said.
