NEWCOMER Kaile Auvray and returning player Jomal Williams are excited to be with the TT senior football team for two international friendly matches against Jamaica on Saturday and Tuesday.
The first match against Jamaica takes place at the Montego Bay Sports Complex in Catherine Hall from 7 pm TT time and the second will be played at the National Stadium in Kingston.
Auvray, speaking to TT Football Association media on Thursday, said, “It is a very big opportunity for me. I am just happy to be here with the squad and to be able to live this experience and keep on growing as a player and obviously, to represent TT is a lot of pride for me and my family.”
Auvray, 18, was born in France, but spent most of his life in the US. He has a Trinidadian mother and his father is from Guadeloupe.
Auvray said he was ready when he received the call from TT head coach Angus Eve. “What I do, I stay ready for anything, so when opportunities arise I could seize it and take my chance. I don’t know if I thought this would have come so fast, but I was ready for it.”
Auvray played for St Martin in a friendly against TT earlier this year. Despite a 2-0 defeat to TT, Auvray was a bright spark for St Martin, showing good individual skill, passing and a thunderous shot which rocked the TT bar from distance in the second half.
Williams, who has been playing professionally in El Salvador for years, said, “It is a very special feeling to be back with the guys. I have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time. As you say, it is almost three years I have not been here, so in this moment I am very thankful and very happy to join the group.”
Williams wants to inspire the inexperienced players. “Now that I am here I see that it is a very young group and I am willing to bring my experience that I have from El Salvador into this group. I want to be an example for some of the younger guys and hopefully I can play my best, do my best and help the team to win these two friendly games.”

Don’t ever forget that the judges who are willing to sacrifice reproductive freedom are usually just as eager to allow states to restrict voting rights. The right-wing judges who vote to eliminate individuals’ right to privacy and health care are often the same judges creating new “rights” to protect corporations’ ability to buy elections, get away with harming workers and communities, and discriminate against some of their employees.

The Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA) has denied changing its policy on the administering of third covid19 vaccine doses. The TRHA was responding to a Newsday report that people under 60 without comorbidities were receiving third doses at Port Mall, Scarborough.
In an interview with Newsday on Wednesday, Dr Roxanne Mitchell, acting general manager of primary care services at the Scarborough General Hospital outlined the policy for the four covid19 vaccine sites at Port Mall in Scarborough, Scarborough Health Centre, Roxborough Health Centre and Canaan Health Centre.
She said: “All persons are now eligible for the booster shot – anybody who has received the first and second doses and you are six months out from the second dose, you can receive a booster shot.”
However, she later told Newsday that she meant only eligible people would meet the criteria for a third dose.
When told that people under 60 at Port Mall were receiving third doses without being asked about comorbidities, she promised to investigate. She made it clear this was not a Tobago policy.

When Newsday visited Port Mall on Wednesday, several people were seen waiting to get their jab.
Newsday saw one person receiving a third Sinopharm dose without being asked about comorbidities.
Mitchell said people who received two AstraZeneca doses will receive a Pfizer booster, while those who received Sinopharm will get an additional dose of the same brand.
Asked earlier Wednesday about what was happening at Port Mall, TRHA CEO Westly Orr insisted that Tobago was following the same policy as Trinidad.
In Trinidad, people 60 and over are eligible for a third dose of the Sinopharm vaccine, while those below 60 must be moderately or severely immunocompromised to get one.
When it comes to additional Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson jabs, anyone of any age can get the booster once they have been determined to be moderately or severely immunocompromised by their physician.
The Division of Health, Wellness and Family Development said on Wednesday there are 23,441 people partially vaccinated in Tobago, and 22,445 are fully vaccinated. (with reporting by Elizabeth Gonzales)

Dr Carissa Etienne, director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), said on Wednesday Trinidad and Tobago is one of the countries of concern in the region owing to the increase in cases of covid19.
Speaking at PAHO's weekly webinar, Etienne said: \"In the Caribbean, TT continues to experience spikes in covid19 cases, hospitalisations and deaths, as does the Cayman Islands.\"
Last week PAHO reported more than 782,655 new infections and 10,950 deaths related to covid19.
Etienne said the omicron variant has already been detected in Argentina, Chile, Brazil, the US, Mexico and Canada.
“It is a matter of time before omicron reaches the rest of the countries in the region, and we must be self-vigilant in the short term. Assessments are under way and it is important countries continue to implement the public health packages that have been shown to be effective against this virus,” she said.
Etienne said vaccines also remain a critical tool for reducing hospitalisations and deaths, as well as limiting the emergence of new variants.
PAHO reported as of Wednesday 55 per cent of people in Latin America and the Caribbean have been fully vaccinated. However, 20 countries in the region have not yet reached the 40 per cent target set for this year.
Guatemala, Haiti, Jamaica, Grenada, St Vincent and the Grenadines continue to lag behind and will not meet the target in the coming weeks.
Etienne said this week PAHO is delivering more than 1.6 million covid19 vaccines to various countries for a total of 72 million doses delivered in the region, while also distributing 34 million seasonal flu vaccines to 33 countries.
\"We have secured more than US$ 1 billion in vaccines through the revolving fund, as well as orders for the coming year as countries continue to request additional doses,\" Etienne said.
She said in all the countries of the Americas there is still community spread and a relaxation of measures which has prevented progress towards the goal of ending covid19.
Dr Jarbas Barbosa, deputy director of PAHO, said Chile and Uruguay already have more than 80 per cent of their populations vaccinated and Brazil has made progress in recent weeks.
However, Barbosa said populations should not be neglected and that there are still many people who are in need of the third booster dose.
\"There is still a lot to do, You must be very careful so that the transmission is fully controlled,\" he said.

THE WEST Indies Women cricket team will leave Oman on Friday for the Caribbean, after quarantining for 11 days.
The team, captained by Stafanie Taylor and coached by Courtney Walsh, have been in Oman, waiting to find out when they would return to the Caribbean, following the cancellation of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women's Cricket World Cup qualifiers in Harare, Zimbabwe on November 27.
The tournament was called off following the outbreak of the new covid19 variant, omicron, in southern Africa. Since that scenario unfolded, the West Indies Women's team has been in Oman waiting to find out when they would return to the Caribbean.
The team includes a pair of Trinidad and Tobago players, the experienced Anisa Mohammed and fellow off-spinner Karishma Ramharack.
Travel restrictions, bans and flight cancellations have forced a conundrum for the ICC, which is responsible to get the team home. As a result, the WI contingent has had to spend the last week in quarantine in the Gulf state of Oman.
