A white Texas Democrat has apologized after calling Republican Sen. Tim Scott an "Oreo" in a social media post. Gary O’Connor said he “was wrong” following his comment about the South Carolina lawmaker, The Hill reported .  “To Sen. Tim Scott, the residents of Lamar County, especially our Black residents, and to my family and friends, I profoundly apologize for the racially insensitive remark I made towards Sen. Scott last week," the Lamar County Democratic Party chairman wrote in a message posted to Facebook. O’Connor quickly found himself in hot water after saying he "had hoped that Scott might show some common sense, but it seems clear he is little more than an oreo with no real principles."  The term “Oreo” is typically used as a pejorative in the Black community to describe someone who embodies “the social and cultural features of a white person,” according to Wiktionary .
