In a newly released campaign ad, Louisiana Senate hopeful Gary Chambers is seen smoking what is presumed to be marijuana, The Washington Post reports . The Baton Rouge native took to Instagram and posted the 37-second clip, which shows him smoking and sharing alarming statistics on drug arrests among Black people. “Every 37 seconds, someone is arrested for possession of marijuana,” Chambers said while sitting in an open-field smoking a rolled blunt. “Since 2010, state and local police have arrested an estimated 7.3 million Americans for violating marijuana laws, over half of all drug arrests.” “Black people are four times more likely to be arrested for marijuana laws than white people,” he continued. “Most of the people police are arresting aren’t dealers, but rather people with small amounts of pot, just like me.”
