WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Campaign staff for Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden are advertising their donations to a group that pays bail fees in Minneapolis after the city’s police jailed people protesting the killing of a black man by a white police officer.

At least 13 Biden campaign staff members posted on Twitter on Friday and Saturday that they made donations to the Minnesota Freedom Fund, which opposes the practice of cash bail, or making people pay to avoid pre-trial imprisonment.

Biden campaign spokesman Andrew Bates said in a statement to Reuters that the former vice president opposes the institution of cash bail as a “modern day debtors prison.”

President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign on Saturday said it was “disturbing” that Biden’s team “would financially support the mayhem that is hurting innocent people and destroying what good people spent their lives building,” in an email about the Reuters story that called for Biden to condemn the riots.

“It is up to everyone to fight injustice,” Colleen May, who identified herself as an campaign organizer for Biden in South Carolina, Wisconsin and Florida, said in a Twitter post that included an image of her receipt from donating $50 to the Minnesota Freedom Fund.

Other countries scheduled to hold elections are Egypt, Guinea, Seychelles and Tanzania.

For countries that do hold elections, there may be special voting arrangements that can allow polls to go ahead but reduce the risk of spreading the virus.

In South Korea's elections in mid-April, the electoral commission encouraged people to vote before election day at any of the 3,500 polling stations throughout the country.

This not only decongested polling stations on election day but contributed to the highest turnout in the country for nearly 30 years.

This means that countries planning to hold elections in 2020 or early-2021 need to start discussing these arrangements - across party lines and among multiple relevant agencies - as soon as possible.

Maj Gen Kasirye Ggwanga will be buried today by a handful of people due to the Covid-19 social distancing rules.

\"A small number of of people, mainly family members, will be allowed at the funeral and only two government -owned media houses have been accredited to cover the event,\" a statement from the army spokesperson, Brig Richard Karemire, said.

This would contravene the rules on social distancing and congestion,\" Karemire said.

\"Burial will take place in Nkene Village, Mityana District,\" Brig Karemire said.

He said during the last days of Gen Kasirye, he was seen enforcing the social distancing rules as ordered by the President and therefore his burial cannot be seen to break what he advocated.

(CMC): More than 383,000 voters in Suriname will go to the polls on Monday to elect a new government amid predictions that voter turnout could decline.

The paper reported that another setback for the polls is likely to be a “polluted’ voters list.

The National Democratic Party (NDP) of President Desi Bouterse, has dismissed an opinion polls published on Friday indicating that the ruling party would be defeated in the election.

In the 2015 poll, the party won 27 of the 51 seats and 80 per cent of the votes cast.

The research agency, Idos, in a statement Friday noted: “With a few days to go to the ballot box on May 25, a substantial part of the voters can still be counted among the floating voters.

Low turnout has marred the voters roll verification exercise as the first phase of the exercise ends Tuesday in some parts of the central and northern regions.

The exercise also involved voter ID replacement and transfer.

For example in Neno, the exercise is also going at a slow pace, but NICE District Education Officer Wallace Kudzala is optimistic the numbers will improve between today when the exercising is ending.

In Ntchisi, NICE Assistant Civic Education Officer Mercy Kazembe, attributes the low turn out to a lack of clarity on the actual voting day.

The situation is the same in Mzuzu with only 495 voters showing up at one centre since Friday last week.

Arizona’s Republican governor shut down bars, movie theaters, gyms and water parks Monday and leaders in several states ordered residents to wear masks in public in a dramatic course reversal amid an alarming resurgence of coronavirus cases nationwide.

In New Jersey, Gov. Phil Murphy announced Monday that he’s postponing the restarting of indoor dining because people have not been wearing face masks or complying with recommendations for social distancing.

Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly said she will issue an executive order mandating the use of masks in stores and shops, restaurants, and in any situation where social distancing of 6 feet (2 meters) cannot be maintained, including outside.

In Texas, a group of bar owners sued on Monday to try to overturn Republican Gov. Greg Abbott’s order closing their businesses.

One of Cuomo’s Republican counterparts, Utah Gov. Gary Herbert, on a conference call with Vice President Mike Pence and members of the White House coronavirus task force, also asked Pence and Trump to issue a national call to wear masks.
