Shadya Coureur, an eighth grader at the Free Will Baptist Christian School who stepped onto the competitive spelling scene for the first time this school year, emerged as the winner of the 49th Virgin Islands Territorial Spelling Bee after correctly spelling the word “bumptious” in round 17 of the annual spelling contest.
