Retailers of brown and refined sugar in Saint Lucia have been cautioned against selling the commodities above the stipulated price, amid delays in shipments to this country caused by the current COVID-19 pandemic. Deputy Director of the Consumer Affairs Department, Benedict Joseph, explained in a statement on Friday that because of the shipment delays, current sugar supplies are being managed to allow for even distribution to all consumers. But he disclosed that the Ministry of Commerce, Manufacturing, Business Development, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs has received several reports of some businesses selling a pound of brown sugar above the legislated price.
