Mcconney defeats boys’ U10 top seed Lewis in Sagicor tennis - Trinidad and Tobago Newsday

T’sean Mcconney pulled off an impressive upset victory against the boys’ 10 and under singles top seed Djaiminha Lewis on Monday when action continued in the Sagicor Junior Tennis Tournament at Eddie Taylor Public Courts, Nelson Mandela Park, St Clair.

Despite several delays because of rain, an unseeded Mcconney weathered the storm to get past the category’s top-ranked player 4-2, 5-3. This was in round three of the round-robin phase.

Also pulling off a tight victory in this division was Disanyo Stephens, who got past Jelani Flermius 4-0, 3-5, 10/7.

In the girls’ equivalent, Ruche Campbell-Smith blew past Katelyn Tallam 4-0, 4-0.

To the boys 12 and under singles, top seed Novak Malcolm was perfect against Adrian Sanchez, as he also won 4-0, 4-0. Third seed Abishek Ramdeen got past Favian Dates 5-4(2), 4-2 while fourth seed Justin Duncan beat Dylan Clifford 4-0, 4-2.

Second seed Ryan Steuart advanced via walkover.

Up to press time, the only other available results saw Jovanni Boil defeat Chad Caraballo 6-2 in the boys’ U14 and Keyondre Duke triumph 6-2, 6-2 against Daniel Dumas.

Action continues on Tuesday from 9.45am.
