South Africa had the most venture capital (VC) deals with 21 per cent of the total early-stage investments, Kenya got 18 per cent and Nigeria 14 per cent.
According to the report, as a region, southern Africa attracted the highest number of VC deals (25 per cent) in Africa during the period under review, followed by East Africa (23 per cent) and West Africa (21 per cent).
Nearly one third (32 per cent) of the total number of early-stage investments reported in Africa in the period were seed stage deals, that is initial equity funding for start-ups.
Series A and Series B transactions (subsequent rounds of funding after start-ups have developed strong track records) together accounted for 29 per cent of the total volume, and 38 per cent of the total value of early stage deals.
Corporate venture firms from North America played a key role in bridging funding gaps, accounting for 37 per cent of the total number of corporate venture firms that participated in VC deals in Africa from 2014 to 2019.

LONDON, CMC – Kieron Pollard’s contract with English county Northamptonshire has been cancelled by “mutual agreement”, amidst the ongoing uncertainty owing to the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.
Pollard, West Indies’ white-ball captain, is one of one two players to have their deals squashed, with Pakistan’s Faheem Ashraf also suffering a similar fate.
Club chief executive Ray Payne said he was hopeful Pollard and Ashraf could return at some point in the future.
“We don’t have any schedule yet for next season so those players don’t know where they’re going to be.
Pollard could also miss out on his campaign in the Indian Premier League which was due to start in March but has also been suspended because of COVID-19.

Ubisoft’s loot shooter, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, is finally getting its second raid.
Today (Jun.16) Ubisoft announced “Operation Iron Horse,” the highly-anticipated second The Division 2 raid goes live on June 30 at 9 am PT.
The second eight-player raid will be free content and will take Division Agents to a foundry where the True Sons are cooking up weapons to aid them in their plan to reclaim Washington D.C.
Ubisoft states that “based on key learnings” from the first raid, Operation Iron Horse will be the “ultimate challenge” for Division 2 agents thanks to new puzzles and mechanics that will make teamwork more critical than ever.

MultiChoice Group has decided to carry competing streaming television services on its upcoming Explora personal video recorder (PVR) decoder because the broadcaster wants to position itself as a “super aggregator” of content.
TechCentral reported on Wednesday that MultiChoice had signed agreements with Netflix and Amazon.com to offer the companies’ streaming services through its next-generation Explora PVR — expected to be an Internet-connected, 4K-capable set-top box.

In a presentation published on its website alongside its 2020 financial results, MultiChoice said in a section headlined “Further enhancements to customer experience — improve retention”, that it had signed the Explora content deals with Netflix and Amazon.
Explaining why MultiChoice would include competitor services on its platform – after all, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video compete head on with its own Showmax and DStv Now offerings – Jacobs said: “We are providing choice, simplicity and convenience to the subscriber.”
This presumably means that the consumer’s billing relationship for services like Netflix and Prime Video will be with MultiChoice, though Jacobs declined to comment, citing confidentiality agreements ahead of the formal announcement.

An eyewitness, a student at the school - told africanews that he had gunshots before running to hide.
\"We were having the French language lesson when we heard gunshots. The teacher was the first to escape and I heard people shouting. When I came back to check, I saw dead bodies in the primary [school] section,\" said the student whose identity we're keeping for his own safety.
Schools in Cameroon's English-speaking regions reopned two weeks after a lengthy disruption by armed violence and the pandemic - with government promising to give protection to education institutions.
Civilian installations as well as military ones have been targeted in Cameroon's conflict. Rights groups have accused government forces and militia fighters of committing atrocities.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack but authorities put the blame on Ambazonia rebels, a loose militia fighting for the independence of northwest and south Cameroon.

Chicago’s new police superintendent David Brown has a vision for the city, a plan to fight summer violence, and an eye on his officers as the coronavirus continues to infect and kill members of the force.
Supt. Brown said the city can’t afford to let COVID-19 impact his goal to make Chicago safe.
Brown said there will be a greater emphasis on community policing and less on specialized crime fighting teams.
Brown said the department may need to issue more citations who host larger parties or gatherings in violation of the stay at home order.
And while billboards are promoting the stay at home order with the slogan “We Are Not Playing,” Brown has an innovative way he hopes to connect with young people that involves playing virtually.
