By ZEKE MILLER, WILL WEISSERT and JONATHAN LEMIRE Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump shunned formal debate practice Tuesday and was heading instead for another of his big rallies, two days ahead of the final presidential debate that may be his last, best chance to alter the trajectory of the 2020 campaign. Democrat Joe Biden took the opposite approach, holing up for debate prep. In the leadup to Thursday's faceoff in Nashville, Trump is trailing in polls in most battleground states as he works to pull off a repeat of his come-from-behind victory of 2016. Also trailing in […]

The number of Covid-19 cases in children across the United States jumped 13% in the first two weeks of October, according to a new report released Tuesday.
A total of 84,319 children nationwide were diagnosed with the novel coronavirus from October 1-15, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Children’s Hospital Association.
“While children represented only 10.9% of all cases in states reporting cases by age, over 741,000 children have tested positive for COVID-19 since the onset of the pandemic,” the AAP said.
The overall rate of infection is 986 cases per 100,000 children in the population, the group added.
However, children still make up a small number of deaths and serious cases from Covid-19, according to state by state data.
As of October 15, children represented 1%-3.6% of total hospitalizations, depending on the state. Between 0.5% and 7.2% of all child coronavirus cases resulted in hospitalization and no more than 0.24% of total deaths. Fourteen states reported no deaths among children.
Some caveats: The data is limited because of its reliance on how each state reports its cases, but it still “underscores the urgent need to control the virus in communities so schools may reopen,” the Academy said. It defines children as those 17 and younger.
The report’s count is likely underestimated and is incomplete because not all states report data in the same way.
Forty-nine states, New York City, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Guam contributed data for the AAP report. A smaller subset of states report information about hospitalizations and deaths by age.

Love in the time of quarantine must be interesting. Couples can't see each other even though they're in the same city. Interactions are limited to small screens, only enough to hear their voices and talk about their days. People can't touch their partners and spend time with them in real life. In addition to this, …

By BEN FINLEY Associated Press NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — With the coronavirus lockdown and school out for the summer, 9-year-old Maya Gebler's social world had shrunk to her immediate family and a few friends. When her human pen pals stopped writing, she turned to the fairies who had taken up residence at a tree in her Virginia neighborhood. And the fairies wrote back. 'They care about you,' she said. 'And they want to write to you.' Beneath a crape myrtle at the edge of a lawn in Norfolk lies a fairy village. A sign on a small wooden door shaped […]

In the United States, Donald Trump and Joe Biden are attacking each other from a distance during their meetings three days before the presidential elections.
Donald Trump
Donald Trump does not slow down the pace of his meetings: three per day. He targets states where a victory would give him hope of staying in his post.
Thus, this Friday, he crisscrossed the Midwest. And during his stage in Rochester, Minnesota, he didn't spare his attacks against his opponent.
'Biden and the extreme left are inciting violence with their vile anti-police rhetoric and by saying that they are weak people, very weak people. They are allowing the rioters to ransack the streets that were financed by you,' he said.
This Saturday, Donald Trump is scheduled to travel to Pennsylvania, again a key state in the race for victory.
Joe Biden
The Democratic candidate was also in central Wisconsin on Friday, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This state, Hillary Clinton had neglected it 4 years ago, believing that it was acquired by the Democrats, and she had been beaten there by Donald Trump. So Joe Biden came to speak directly to this Democratic-conscious electorate.
'My friends, I'm going to protect Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. And you know what, he won't be able to do anything because we are going to win this election.
You saw how weak and messy Donald Trump was. When he talks about his trade policy... but my God, it's been a disaster!' the Democratic candidate promised.
This Saturday, Joe Biden will be in Michigan, with a distinguished guest: former Democratic President Barack Obama.
Early Vote
More than 86 million voters have already cast their ballots. That's more than a third of the entire electorate.

BY HARRIET CHIKANDIWA POLICE have expressed concern over the spike in suicide cases in the country this year as compared to last year. In statement, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said 189 suicide cases were recorded in the country for the period January to September as compared to 129 during the same period last year. “The police have noted that more men are committing suicide as a result of domestic or civil disputes. Some people are taking their lives due to chronic illness. The most common method is suicide by hanging, followed by poising and in other circumstances by shooting or drowning.” Nyathi urged members of the public to seek counselling instead of taking their own lives.

BY PATRICIA SIBANDA/NQOBANI NDLOVU UNITED Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) acting chief executive officer Narcacius Dzvanga has revealed that the refurbishment of the city’s main COVID-19 facility was running behind schedule and it might not be ready for use by monthend as initially planned. Dzvanga made the remarks on Friday when the inter-ministerial taskforce on COVID-19 visited the health facility to assess progress. “We were targeting to open and admit our first patient by mid-October, but the engineers have written to us to say that they are unable to meet the deadline. Even up to the end of October we still remain hopeful that the west wing could start accommodating patients, maybe first of November but our wish was mid-October,” Dzvanga said. “The project is about 95% complete, it’s a 112-bedded hospital, with intensive care beds and 16 or 18 beds, will be what we call high dependency units, then the remainder will be oxygen beds meaning that the patients, just require oxygen and good nursing care. “We think by November 1 we could admit our first patient there, but at the moment we are lodging them somewhere on site and the numbers are very few. We get daily statistics. “It’s our wish to see patients being admitted there in the purpose-built or designed unit ward.” Dzvanga said they had modernised the ward by installing ventilation pipes and plugs on the verandas as a way of creating more space. “This office can be turned into intensive care, you just need the oxygen pipe, the ventilator and the nursing staff only. That is why you might find the ICU (intensive care unit) and the HDU, it’s exactly the same types that you saw on the veranda,” he said. “ICU is usually about ventilation, but the current trend internationally is that aggressive ventilation is said to be harmful so we are not pushing for most of the patients to be on ventilation.” In a related development, the Joshua Nkomo Legacy Restoration Project (JNLRP) said the planned reopening of Ekusileni Medical Centre next month would go a long way in restoring the late Father Zimbabwe’s legacy. Government has announced that Ekusileni, which has experienced several false starts since its closure in 2004, will be ready to admit patients in the next few weeks. Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga toured the institution recently where he committed to ensure its operationalisation. The National Social Security Authority (Nssa)-owned facility was converted into a COVID-19 treatment centre. “As a foundation, we welcome talk that the government has set a date for Ekusileni reopening. We hope it is serious this time around as this is not only about Nkomo’s legacy but it is for the benefit of the people in this region and beyond,” JNLRP director Jabulani Hadebe said. The JNLRP, founded and registered in 2018, seeks to promote and sustain Nkomo’s legacy. “However, we feel there is no political will with regards to anything to do with the Joshua Nkomo legacy. It is a fact that his legacy is unparalleled, but we have people in positions of authority who will always want to do
